Sacred Healing
Excited to have added this additional class to my current birth circle. In this class, we will talk about what Jewish rituals there are to support the postpartum person. We will cover:
💜 what's the Jewish thing to do with the placenta
💜 the Jewish tradition of resting for the first 30-60 days after birth
💜 prayers for expressing gratitude
💜 building a village of support
I am blessed to be part of a tradition that has so much to offer when it comes to the postpartum time. We are reminded of the importance of community, rest and gratitude and really honor this period as a time of great transition. After the Israelites were born upon leaving Egypt, there was a long postpartum transition in the desert (40 years)! After each and every birth, we change and it is extremely beneficial for both parent and child to take time to be still and to absorb their new worlds.
The Lubavitcher Rebbe says that when we are faced with a loss, our minds can heal but our hearts are forever changed. So too in birth. When we give birth, our minds can adjust but our hearts are different (forever changed) - maybe she is a little larger, maybe a little softer, maybe a little more fearful etc. The postpartum time is about giving the mind time to adjust and to move forward and it is also about making space for the heart to feel all her feelings - in their intensity. If we don't give the postpartum person time to be with her postpartum heart, it may make moving on even more of a challenge. Through allowing our hearts to rest and reflect, we become channels for Divine insights and healing.
